Why Age-Specific Interpretation Matters
Normal histology changes as a child develops, and several pediatric entities have no adult counterpart. Reference ranges, growth patterns, and the differential diagnosis all shift with age. Our pathologists interpret each specimen against the patient’s developmental stage rather than an adult baseline.
Areas of Evaluation
- Pediatric surgical and biopsy specimens
- Gastrointestinal biopsies, including evaluation for inflammatory conditions
- Lymph node and soft tissue specimens
- Placental and perinatal specimens
- Pediatric neoplasms and developmental lesions
- Immunohistochemistry and ancillary studies when appropriate
Working With Pediatric Practices
Small specimens and limited sampling are common in pediatric practice. We work with referring clinicians on collection and handling so that limited material yields a usable answer, and we flag when additional sampling would meaningfully change the interpretation.
Collaboration for Difficult Cases
Referring providers can contact our pathologists to discuss clinical history, clarify findings, or request an additional review. For outside consultations, contact client services for current submission requirements. Meet the team.
